Can matching couples through an agency really work?

Just Woodland Friends Country Introductions says it can!

By Proprietor Polly Langford.

Autumn Friends is a part of Just Woodland Friends and caters for the older age group from around forty five up to - our oldest member currently eighty two!

The agency specialises in helping people who have an understanding and appreciation of the countryside, farming, country life and all that goes with it.Just Woodland Friends

I send out a list of member profiles for you to choose from. I’m also happy to help you and will suggest suitable members for you to contact if you ask me to.  I will keep a photo of you on file if you wish and send it to other members individually on request. I do not publish photos or actual profiles on line.

A few success stories:

Paul, a widower of three years from Devon, 71 years old and a semi-retired farmer was fed up of life on his own, but where was he going to find a lady friend at his age? Especially someone from farming background, with a good understanding of country life.  After giving it much thought, he eventually joined Autumn Friends, Paul was a member for six months and although meeting up with some nice members and chatting on the phone to lots, he hadn’t met the ‘special’ one.

Luckily with a lot of encouragement from friends and her daughter, Amy from Dorset, a divorced farmers wife, who had always lived in the country and missed living on the farm, joined Autumn Friends. Amy is retired but young at heart and keen to be part of life on the farm once more.  Paul and Amy chatted on the phone many times for hours before they decided to meet up. Once they met there was no stopping them and six months later Amy moved to Devon to live with Paul on the farm.

When a person joins and finds what they were looking for word gets around fast.

Tony’s daughter Mary had a succession of failures due to her keen interest in horses. She joined Just Woodland Friends and only three months later she met the man she has now married.

Two years after the death of her Mother, Mary and the rest of her family persuaded her Dad Tony to join.   Tony was very sceptical and couldn’t believe you would really meet someone decent and genuine through an agency. Tony also had a keen interest in horses like his daughter.  He lived in an old 17th century cottage in Oxfordshire with adjoining stables and land. Life was good but there was something missing and he was lonely.

Claire had seen the advert for Just Woodland Friends in a friend’s magazine and jotted down the number. Eventually she joined and after chatting to one or two members she contacted Tony. Discovering they had a lot in common including a love of horses the two called the agency and asked to put their membership ‘on hold’ while they see how it goes. Claire’s sister Marion joined six months later and informed the agency that Tony and Claire were very happy together. Marion also met her husband Rich through Just Woodland Friends and then Rich’s cousin also joined!

Melanie wrote:  During my last month of membership I had given up all hope of meeting anyone I could get along with.  Then one night the phone rang and it was Tommy from Inverness.  We seemed to get on well chatting on the phone.  A girl friend and I arranged to meet Tommy at his smallholding, if I didn’t hit it off with Tommy I planned a long weekend break with my friend somewhere in the area.

As we arrived Tommy was waiting for us, we liked each other instantly and got on so well, the long weekend was spent on the smallholding.

We are getting married in August this year in my local church and I’m moving up to Inverness to start a new life with Tommy.  I just wanted to write and say I can’t thank you enough, without you we would never have met each other and found such happiness.

Malcolm proposed early in January and in October we returned to my homeland to marry. It was a fantastic day and certainly a day we’ll never forget …. Our first child arrived in February and is now one and a half years old. Happily, I have only recently discovered I’m going to have another.

Looking back it really does seem as though fate was intervening to get us together. The year before we met, I had turned down a job that would have meant that Malcolm and I would have been neighbours.  Malcolm had been to a party that I should have gone to but had changed my plans.  And then we both joined Just Woodland Friends at the same time and through this we finally met!

Lucy from Cumbria had been a member of Just Woodland Friends for a few years on and off, talking to lots of chaps and meeting up with a few.  The ‘right one’ eluding her each time.

Almost on the point of giving up she found Don in Herefordshire on her last new list.  Steeling herself to have one more try she called him. The first few times he was out and then he was unable to talk, as he was busy.    Eventually he called her back and they were on the phone for 5 hours!

Many more phone calls and text messages followed before they agreed to meet.

They both have very similar backgrounds in ecology and an enthusiastic love of the countryside, nature and wildlife.

I can’t think of a nicer job than running Just Woodland Friends and Autumn Friends.

Over the last eighteen years it has brought happiness to many that would not have met otherwise. I feel this is my destiny and plan to continue as long as I am able.
